In Conversation: A Photographic Dialogue between Walter Vogel and Franziska Stünkel.
At first glance, their visual expressions appear fundamentally different — Walter Vogel’s precise black-and-white images stand in stark contrast to Stünkel’s fragmented color photographs of reflections on glass. Yet, there are clear parallels in the work of both German photographers, who each traveled the world with a Leica M to capture everyday street life. For this exhibition, Stünkel followed in Vogel’s footsteps, visiting the locations of some of his iconic photographs, such as Caffè Gilli in Florence. Franziska Stünkel explains: “Over the years, places and people have changed due to cultural, technological, and political developments, but we are united in the search for what is deeply human.” Their work shares an artistic sensitivity on a timeless level.
