The Leica M6

Even after more than 30 years, the Leica M6 is still one the most sought after 35mm cameras, with its popularity only increasing since the analog revival. But what makes this rangefinder such a sought after camera?

The Leica M6 is a fully manual and mechanical rangefinder camera. This means the camera doesn’t require a battery to operate. It’s a camera that doesn’t get in the way of a moment and that’s always ready to capture what catches your eye. The rangefinder focussing system of the M6 allows you to focus quickly and precisely. Are you working with smaller apertures? Then zone focussing is for you. The Leica M-Lenses feature distance scales that allow for fast and accurate zone focussing. Thanks to the maximum shutter speed of 1/1000th you can freeze the action happening in front of you, making sure you get the decisive moment on film.

Leica M6 Lightmeter

There is one big feature that does require a battery (CR1/3N 3V Lithium), and that’s the built-in light meter that offers through the lens metering. This accurate lightmeter is a great aid in making sure you are exposed correctly before you take a photo. The lightmeter of the Leica M6 reads from a large center spot of the frame, which means you get more of an average reading than if you were to use a spot meter. This is something to keep in mind when you want to expose your Leica M6 for a certain highlight or shadow.

The Leica M6 TTL

The Leica M6 TTL, as the name suggests, features TTL flash synchronisation up to 1/50th. It also features a bigger, more ergonomic shutterspeed dial.
The Leica M6 has a bright viewfinder with several magnification options that make composing your image a breeze. The 0.58x gives you 28-90mm, 35mm and 50-75mm framelines, the 0.72x gives you 28-90mm, 35-135mm and 50-75mm framelines and the 0.85x gives you 35-135mm, 50-75mm and 90mm framelines.
