Visual Storytelling: How to Create, Edit and Present a Photo Story

Great photography is not only about making strong individual images. In editorial, documentary and magazine photography, the real power often lies in how images work together. A story is shaped by what you photograph, how you photograph it, what you leave out, and how you edit the final sequence. In this Leica Storytelling Photography workshop, we explore how to create a photographic story from the first idea to the final selection. You will learn how to think like a visual storyteller: how to find an angle, build a narrative arc, identify the images you need, and create a coherent series with rhythm, atmosphere and meaning.
We look at the difference between a single photograph, a reportage, a portrait story and a magazine feature. You will learn how to photograph with intention, how composition and timing influence the story, and how your visual choices can create a recognisable signature style. We also dive into image selection: why some strong images do not belong in a story, how sequencing changes meaning, and how editing determines the final angle. Participants are invited to bring an existing series or small selection of photographs. During the workshop, we discuss your work, look at what is already strong, and identify where the story, structure or visual language can be improved.
The day also includes practical guidance on how to present and pitch your work to newspapers, magazines, cultural platforms or commercial clients. You will leave with a clearer understanding of how to develop your own photographic stories and how to bring them into the world with more confidence and focus.
