The top and base plates are milled from aluminium, which keeps the body noticeably lighter than the brass-bodied silver chrome version, without giving up any of the precision fit the M-System is known for.
 

Discretion as a design choice

Like every M11-P, this version leaves off the red Leica dot on the front, replacing it with a subtle engraved Leica script on the top plate — a detail first used on earlier "P" designated M-Cameras and carried forward here for exactly the same reason: making the camera a little less conspicuous to point at a subject.
