Leica Q3, Metal Gray Paint Finish — Key Specs & Highlights

  • New Metal Gray paint finish: a factory-developed tone, joining Leica's classic black and silver options.
  • Same Q3 underneath: 60 MP full-frame BSI sensor, Summilux 28mm f/1.7 ASPH. lens, hybrid autofocus, 8K video.
  • Red lens engravings: feet and f-stop markings in red, replacing the black Q3's yellow-orange.
  • Diamond-pattern leatherette: the same tactile covering used across Leica's current camera line.
  • IP52 weather sealing: protected against dust and light rain, unchanged from the standard Q3.
  • Matching accessories: a new dark-brown leather protector and carrying strap, sold separately.

A new colour, not a new camera

Metal Gray is Leica's newest permanent finish, sitting between the brand's familiar black and silver options rather than replacing either. The Q3 is one of the first cameras to get it, alongside the M11-P, the D-Lux 8 and the APO-Summicron-M 50 f/2 ASPH. lens — and in every case, the finish is the only thing that's changed. This is still the same Q3 underneath: the 60 MP sensor, the fixed Summilux lens, the autofocus system, all identical to the black version.

What the finish actually looks like

The tone was developed at Leica's own factory rather than sourced as an off-the-shelf paint, and it reads as a darker, more muted grey than a typical silver-chrome camera — closer in spirit to black than to Leica's classic silver finish, but with a subtle metallic character up close. Black control elements provide the contrast, and the lens carries red engravings on the feet and f-stop scale instead of the yellow-orange used on the standard black Q3 — a small detail, but the easiest way to tell the two apart at a glance.

Everything that made the Q3 the Q3

Behind the new paint is the same camera Leica has been refining since 2023: a 60 MP full-frame BSI sensor with Triple Resolution Technology, the fixed Summilux 28mm f/1.7 ASPH. lens with its built-in macro mode, and a hybrid autofocus system combining phase detection, contrast AF and depth-from-defocus. Video, connectivity and the IP52 weather sealing all carry over exactly as they are on the black Q3 — nothing here has been simplified or left out to make room for the new colour.

Accessories built to match

Alongside the Metal Gray Q3, Leica has introduced a protector and carrying strap in a new dark-brown leather, designed specifically to complement the finish rather than being repurposed from the existing black or cognac ranges. Both are sold separately, so you can pair the camera with them from day one or add them later.

Who it's for

If the Q3's specification already suits you, the decision here is purely about how the camera looks and feels in hand day to day. Metal Gray reads as quieter than black in some light and less overtly vintage than silver chrome in others — a middle ground for anyone who wants the Q3 to stand out a little without reaching for a more conspicuous colour.

Leica Q3, Metal Gray Paint Finish — Frequently Asked Questions

No — the sensor, lens, autofocus and video are all identical. Only the paint finish and the lens engraving colour differ.

How can I tell a Metal Gray Q3 apart from the black version?

By the grey paint finish itself, and the red feet and f-stop engravings on the lens, rather than the black Q3's yellow-orange.

Are there matching accessories for this finish?

Yes, a protector and carrying strap in a new dark-brown leather, sold separately.

Which other Leica products share this finish?

The Leica M11-P, the Leica D-Lux 8 and the APO-Summicron-M 50 f/2 ASPH. lens.

Is the Metal Gray Q3 weather sealed?

Yes, IP52-rated against dust and light spray water, the same as the standard Q3.
